Working outside Glasgow

GSC has successfully won two tenders to prooide services outside Glasgow, in surrounding local authority areas.

Firstly, GSC successfully tendered to provide a pilot Homeless Outreach Service and Research Project in the North Lanarkshire area on behalf of the local authority there. This exciting new project began in February 2005.
The project provides a basic outreach service for people who are experiencing rough sleeping or hidden homelessness, offering crisis intervention and assistance to access services, and at the same time is conducting initial research into this form of homelessness, and how it can best be addressed in North Lanarkshire.

More recently we have won a tender to provide a Floating Housing Support Service across Ayrshire, working in partnership with North, East and South Ayrshire Local Authorities.

The aim of the Service is to provide comprehensive and flexible floating housing support to those who have been excluded from mainstream homelessness services due to a chaotic lifestyle and to engage individuals who have been unable to link in with the current range of services and act to minimise the potential risks and impact of sleeping rough.

Our Peer Educators developed an information booklet for homeless people in conjunction with the City Council’s Homelessness Partnership. This joint work was one of four projects nominated for an award from the Chartered Institute of Housing in London in November 2004.

New Head Office for GSC

During the year we took the decision to move out of our rented Head Office space in Dixon Road.

We want to express our thanks to Govanhill Community Development Trust, our landlords there for nearly ten years, and in particular to Eleanor Meek for all her assistance and support.

In July we moved into our new Head Office in Ballater Street, which we have purchased through a bank loan and a number of donations, and which not only gives the charity a further asset, but will allow us to strengthen our identity and profile.
